The motto of the Boy Scouts is to always be prepared. Keep that in mind when purchasing debt. While it may seem that everyone knows what to do and how to do it, the endless litigation against debt buyers shows otherwise. Most of these issues could have been avoided had the buyer been better prepared and more knowledgeable before transacting with the debt seller.
This course will arm those wanting to purchase debt with the essential knowledge needed to both avoid expensive problems and find financial success. We will cover how to properly evaluate the value of a portfolio of debt prior to purchase. We will explain how to best use Microsoft Excel’s spreadsheets and PIVOT tables to find hidden value or obscured concerns. We will also identify the documentation all debt buyers must demand to ensure legal compliance (e.g., chain of title) and the ability to file suit. The availability and quality of the documentation will impact legal exposure, operational efficiencies, profitability, and the price of that portfolio.
